Plenary Hall
Needs Analysis

As expected, most of the PhD work and research on TEL focuses on developing technologies for learning purposes and/or assessing how technology can enhance this human need. Even if this use of technology can bring new learning modalities and opportunities, we consider that it is critical to understand how they can impact critical human factors like Motivation, Engagement and Wellbeing.

The workshop’s goal is to help participants reflect on the impact of their research on the factors above and, if needed, discuss opportunities to contribute more positively to learners’ social and emotional needs.

To deepen the discussion, we will also promote a discussion for opportunities in the TEL field that do not focus directly on learning but explore how technology can contribute to creating better conditions and environments for learning. At the end, we will discuss the potential creation of a proposal for an EATEL SIG focused on TEL for Motivation, Engagement and Wellbeing.

Learning Objectives

After the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and frame the relevance of developing technological solutions that aim to promote Motivation, Engagement and Wellbeing for learning.
  • Reflect on the impact of their research contribution to learners’ Motivation, Engagement and Wellbeing.
  • Get involved in the proposal for creating an EATEL SIG in the field.

Pre-activities

No preparation is required. However, if you want to have a look at the following research paper, “Designing for Motivation, Engagement and Wellbeing in Digital Experience” that could be interesting 🙂
