We are glad to invite you to pre-school webinars as part of the 18th Joint Technology Enhanced Learning Summer School- jTELSS24. With the interdisciplinary TEL topics in mind, interactive and practice-oriented sessions will be given by experts in the field, to cater for the needs of young researchers in TEL.

jTELSS24 webinars will kick off on the 8th of March with two webinar sessions, each lasting 45 minutes. The sessions will feature a presentation, as well as a discussion or an interactive Q&A exchange. Through jTELSS24 webinars, we offer you the opportunity to connect with TEL PhD-candidate community of the EATEL, in addition to gaining practical insights from experts in the academic research and the TEL-related skills.

These webinars are open to all interested participants. Whether you plan to attend the jTELSS24 or not, you have the chance to get in touch, or refresh your contact, with the community and experts on the 8th of March.

Introduction to JTELSS24

Description

If you are curious about the EATEL summer school and would like to learn more about this event, this short session will answer many questions and help you take a decision to participate! We will briefly present the academic program, the logistics of the event, the application and registration process, the participation fee, and share some of our experience. There will be time to ask any questions you might have about the event.

Maybe you tried to read GDPR regulation and stopped due to the complexity of the text and the unusual language often found in legal documents. Perhaps reading the GDPR rules has been on your to-do list for quite some time, and the deadline for this task is constantly moved forward. Do you know how violation of GDPR can affect/destroy your research? Are you aware of the exemptions from GDPR rules for research? If you're unsure, you may want to consider refreshing your knowledge of GDPR as it applies to your research in the TEL field.

In this webinar, participants will have the opportunity to explore several real-life scenarios involving the collection and processing of personal data for research purposes in the TEL field. This interactive session aims to provide a practical understanding of certain aspects of GDPR application. The discussion will cover the risks associated with GDPR violations for researchers and their research outcomes. Additionally, attendees will receive information about reliable resources offering detailed descriptions and explanations of GDPR rules.

Facilitator

Juri Mets is a lawyer and researcher with extensive experience in practicing GDPR law and advising businesses, research institutions, and individual researchers on GDPR compliance since its inception. He specializes in drafting GDPR consent forms, GDPR-compliant privacy policy sections, and more, ensuring adaptation of GDPR regulations to various contexts.

Participants will engage with expert insights into strategic career planning, professional networking, personal branding, and the transition to multifaceted career paths both in- and outside of academia. Through a blend of interactive discussions, actionable strategies, and real-world examples, this webinar seeks to equip scholars with the confidence to explore a wide range of career opportunities, adapt to changing job markets, and effectively communicate their value to prospective employers or collaborators.

The webinar offers an exploration of career possibilities, encouraging PhD scholars to proactively seek out and secure opportunities that resonate with their professional goals and personal values, beyond traditional academic paths.

Facilitator

Mathias Schroijen is a member of the EU Liaison Office at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). As a project leader, he is responsible for the development of transferable skills training programmes and career development services for researchers. Mathias has a research background in health psychology, focusing on respiratory psychophysiology (KU Leuven) and in parallel focused on PhD community building at the local level (PhD Society at KU Leuven), the construction of training and career development services at the institutional level (former project manager MSCA-Cofund IF@ULB) and the representation of early career researchers at the European level (Co-coordinator mental health working group and former secretary of Eurodoc).
