Needs Analysis

At times, we all struggle with identifying the competences that we need as researchers. In addition to specific domain knowledge, there are transversal skills that a researcher is expected to develop, though it is not always clear which ones. This uncertainty leads to confusion and stress.
This workshop is designed to address these challenges by using the ResarchComp – The European Competence Framework for Researchers. ResarchComp was launched last year by the European Commission as a tool to help “researchers assess and develop their own transversal skills.” The goal of the workshop is to help participants reflect on their competences and their professional development. Where are you? Where do you want to go? And how do you get there? The focus is on planning as a way to develop engaging professional life, maintaining work-life balance. The workshop will also be an occasion to provide input to JTELSS about which training activities should be prioritized.

Learning Objectives

After the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the transferable skills necessary for a successful career as research
  • Use ResearchComp to identify their professional strengths and weaknesses
  • Reflect critically on the competences that they want to develop and how to achieve their goal

No preparation is required. However, if you want to have a look at ResearchComp before the workshop, you find it here:
