Needs Analysis
Learning research ethics is crucial as it ensures the protection of participants, upholds the credibility of research findings, and promotes compliance with regulations and ethical guidelines established by institutions and governing bodies. Adhering to ethical standards enhances the trustworthiness of research, facilitating publication opportunities and collaborations within the academic community. Additionally, understanding research ethics helps researchers consider the potential long-term impact of their work, avoid research misconduct, and make ethical decisions when faced with complex situations. These skills are essential for fostering global collaboration, maintaining the integrity of the scientific process, and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in a responsible manner.
Learning Objectives
In this workshop, participants will delve into the fundamental principles of research ethics, gaining a nuanced understanding of the values that underpin ethical research practices. We will explore the crucial documentation required by research ethics boards and regulatory bodies, emphasizing its significance in ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines. Through interactive sessions, attendees will develop the skills needed to craft comprehensive and ethically sound research protocols, addressing key considerations related to participant protection and research integrity. Moreover, the workshop will guide participants in the art of drafting informed consent forms, providing practical insights into creating documents that are not only clear and informative but also align with the highest ethical standards in research.
Pre-activities
Attendees may bring their research protocols and/or informed consent forms at whatever stage of finalization (albeit it is not required).
