Abstract

This webinar will open the DETEL webinar series spring-summer 2021.  The participants will learn about DETEL, an international initiative that aims to improve doctoral education in TEL and develop educational resources on various TEL topics. The present series of webinars and the accompanying resources for doctoral candidates is the first educational event by DETEL. The participants will also get to know the EATEL community, which has a 15-year-long tradition of doctoral education in the field of TEL. The services that the association provides for doctoral candidates include the doctoral consortium at EC-TEL and the summer school training JTELSS.

At the opening webinar, we will look at the field of Technology-Enhanced Learning and try to better understand it by reviewing its components, methods, and boundaries. After a short and inspiring presentation on what is TEL in 2021, the participants and the organizers will engage in an informal discussion. Among other questions, we may look attempt to define the priorities of TEL on the global scale and at the time of the pandemic. We will also discuss what roles do the PhD candidates play and what challenges they have.

At the end of the webinar, the participants will learn about the other webinars in the series, their content, format, and additional resources available on the topics they cover.
