Abstract
This Pedagogical Patterns module will mainly introduce participants to Pedagogical Approaches in Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). It will be divided into two main parts. The first part will focus on a general theoretical introduction on learning theories, pedagogy, pedagogical approaches and patterns. A specific focus will be on the case of collaborative learning flow patterns in TEL. The module will then move on to the more practical part, in which participants will be provided with the opportunity to attend a demonstration of TEL implementations based on patterns, and more specifically the use of WebCollage and PyramidApp. Initially, prior to the workshop, participants will be provided with some pre-reading and pre-viewing material, through which they will be introduced to the theoretical background. During the synchronous workshop, the trainer(s) will take the participants through the use of WebCollage and PyramidApp, and inform them about how pedagogy and pedagogical patterns can inform technology-enhanced learning innovations.
Learning goals
- Introduce participants to the theoretical background of learning theories and pedagogical patterns
- Name key pedagogical patterns
- Describe how pedagogical patterns can be implemented in TEL
- Understand the basic features WebCollage and PyramidApp, as examples of TEL solutions enabling the application of pedagogical patterns
- Experience how PyramidApp can be used following pedagogical patterns for TEL purposes.
Content and structure
The contents of the module will be presented and carried out, using a variety of modes, such as show and tell as well as more interactive activities such as discussions, matching and hands-on activities. The synchronous workshop will close with feedback and Q&As, providing participants with food for thought, as well as with the tools for further exploring the affordances of WebCollage and PyramidApp. Finally, the trainers will provide participants with a more advanced reading list.
