🔎 Needs Analysis

This workshop directly addresses that need by providing hands-on experience with MAXQDA, a widely used software tool for qualitative and mixed-methods research. It equips participants with practical skills to organize, code, and analyze diverse data types, as well as to conduct systematic and reliable literature reviews, which are critical in any PhD research journey. The inclusion of MAXQDA’s AI Assistant adds an innovative component, showing students how AI can streamline data analysis and interpretation.

📒 Session Description

In the academic community, data triangulation is seen as one of the criteria that ensures high quality and robustness of research. This means that researchers have to deal with qualitative data (e.g. text, visual, and audio data) at least to some extent. There exist various software packages for computer assisted analysis of such data, but training opportunities on using them are scarce or costly. The proposed workshop will provide the participants with essential practical skills of using one of the most convenient software packages for qualitative and mixed methods research, namely, MAXQDA. This software is also extremely useful in conducting literature reviews, which is part of every PhD student’s path, so having a tool that can save time and improve reliability of complex theoretical findings (also empirical findings when empirical data is considered) is of essence. The software also has an inbuilt AI Assistant, which will be explored at the workshop too.

💡 Learning Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Navigate and use MAXQDA software for organizing, coding, and analyzing qualitative (text, visual, audio) data effectively;
  2. Apply MAXQDA to literature reviews, improving efficiency and reliability in synthesizing complex theoretical and empirical findings;
  3. Leverage MAXQDA’s AI Assistant to support qualitative data analysis, coding, and interpretation;
  4. Develop practical skills in computer-assisted qualitative data analysis that can be directly applied in PhD research or other academic projects.

🧩 Pre-activities and prerequisites

Participants will receive information on how to install the software. I will provide license codes so they can try out the software after the workshop too. I will also share useful self-study materials and examples from real projects where MAXQDA was used.
