21st Century (4Cs) Skills Development Through EduTech Integration: 21-Day Challenges

Thursday 08/06 14:00-15:30h
Workshop Space B
Abstract

Do you want to know how to develop 4Cs within 21 days? Do you want to understand how to use EduTech meaningfully in your classroom to develop your students’ 21st-century skills and competencies? Would you like to learn how to apply a pedagogical pattern of a 21-day challenge in different ways in teaching different disciplines and for different types of students? In my workshop, I will share my experience and good practices so that you can get the answers to these questions and many more that may arise along the way. The proposed pattern instance model is flexible. It can be expanded with new features and adapted to specific goals and designs. So you will have a tool to use in your teaching.

Needs Analysis

Postmodern learning requires rethinking already established modern pedagogical practices, theories, and methods and adapting them to the rapidly changing needs of Ph.D. students. Transferring face-to-face learning to a digital environment leads to different results. Ph.D. candidates in TEL witness a rapidly growing body of theoretical research on blended learning that is personalized, authentic, ubiquitous, and available anytime, anywhere. However, what seems to be the reality in classrooms is that even though EduTech is being used, it needs to provide the intended learning outcomes at a different rate than these technologies are being incorporated into the everyday classroom experience. Ph.D. candidates need to experience the workshop’s content because I will share teaching ideas about digital technology and competencies and 4Cs development. We will analyze various pedagogical patterns and their use to design 21-day challenges in TEL.

Learning Objectives

Ph.D. students will learn how to replicate an authentic real-life experience, foster students 4Cs and self-regulation, and increase their desire to speak and communicate via 21-day challenges. They will be able to design enriching learning experiences, incorporating creative, challenging MALL/CALL tasks to raise students’ overall satisfaction with using EdTech in EFL learning. Whether digital natives or digital immigrants, they will develop digital and pedagogical skills. They will be able to harness the power of technology and apply suitable pedagogical techniques to enrich learning and bring memorable experiences to the classroom.

Session Description

The workshop will comprise 20 minutes of presentation based on the research findings. Then participants will be able to expand their perception of teachers as designers by analyzing cases of 21-day challenges presented. Afterward, we will discuss particular teaching and learning details involving the content and use of pedagogical patterns by applying a strategy of intensive courses to enhance 4Cs and other competencies. Then the participants will be exposed to video blogging as a teaching technique through their personal experience to improve their hard and soft skills. We will address a question of pedagogical design to make learning in an online environment more absorbing and full of real-life challenges. They will be able to showcase their creativity and make a video on the platform flip.com.
