LaTeX is a software system for typesetting documents widely used in academia for the communication and publication of scientific documents in many fields. This workshop will introduce the basic knowledge for learning how to use LaTeX. Participants will have the opportunity to structure and write their PhD proposals in LaTeX so it can be later used for a Doctoral Consortium submission. A Doctoral Consortium provides PhD candidates with an exceptional opportunity to present, discuss, and receive formative feedback on their research by other researchers.

This workshop will also introduce what is a Doctoral Consortium, how it works and the peculiarities of this year’s EC-TEL Doctoral Consortium (e.g., mentors). We will present how to structure a PhD proposal and how to defend it. The combination of these two topics into this workshop will provide participants with useful knowledge to writing academic documents and submit a DC submission.

• What is a Doctoral Consortium, how it works and the peculiarities of this year’s EC-TEL Doctoral Consortium
• How to structure the EC-TEL Doctoral Consortium submission
• The basic knowledge to write and format research documents in LaTeX

5. [20min] Individual activity: prepare your DC submission using LaTeX (e.g., title, abstract, keywords, introduction, goals, contributions, evaluations, work done so far, future work)
