Needs Analysis

Learning technologists and researchers are closely involved with innovations, teams and projects. Yet, often these endeavours do not go beyond academic remits and research grant projects. In a world where professional researchers pursue mixed careers, balancing between research, teaching, part-time employment, consulting and partnering for a business, it is important for them to have a broader perspective on the value of their research beyond academia and the opportunities available for business.

 

Learning Objectives

The aim of this workshop is to train TEL PhD students to realise the potential of their research for business. This will be done by:

  • Explaining career pathways from a TEL PhD including starting a business.
  • Introducing key business principles such as the Value Proposition related to TEL research.
  • Explaining how to draft a business plan based on the Business Model Canvas and work with a business team.

This workshop combined both theoretical concepts and practical exercises, underlined by general project management principles as a general skill that can be used in many contexts.
