Session Description

“Education is on fire, and it’s students who spark the flame.”
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming education, integrating into curricula worldwide with a focus on applications, societal impact, and ethics (Gadanidis et al., 2024). To drive meaningful change, we must go beyond existing AI tools and imagine alternative futures through a futures studies approach.
This workshop introduces Design Fiction, a speculative method that explores AI’s future in education through fictional narratives and prototypes. Participants will:
– Identify challenges and discuss AI’s risks and societal impact.
– Create speculative narratives that encourage critical engagement.
– Examine ethical dilemmas and long-term implications.
The final outcome—story driven scenarios and diegetic prototypes—will spark discussions on AI’s role in learning. Through hands-on activities, participants will act as futurists, developing innovative ideas that contribute to Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) research
