Session Description
Research on educational and language technologies has been synergetic for decades. Progress in foundational NLP research has enabled a plethora of new educational applications in both the academic and private sectors. On the other hand, educational use cases pose problems that contribute to progress in foundational NLP research. In the past decade, rapid progress was made in language technology, which culminated in the overall hype around LLMs. Educational technology and educational research have a lot of use cases that can be supported by language technology, be it to automatically analyse and transcribe an ethnographic classroom recording, to transcribe and code qualitative interviews, to analyze student responses in assessments, to analyze forum discussions, or to generate textual learner feedback, among many others. In this workshop, we will dive into some core NLP technologies and explore how they can be applied to educational use cases.
