Explanations in Artificial Intelligence to strengthen Learning Analytics for higher education.
Friday 16/05 9:00-10:30h
Workshop Space B
Session Description
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Learning Analytics (LA) are becoming integral to higher education, with Large Language Models (LLMs) offering new ways to support students and teachers. However, AI-based Learning Analytics systems often lack transparency, leading to trust issues and limited adoption in educational contexts. Furthermore, Self-Regulated Learning (SRL)—which emphasizes students’ ability to plan, monitor, and reflect on their learning—is not yet fully integrated into AI-driven analytics.
This workshop will explore how Explainable AI (XAI) techniques and LLMs can bridge this gap by providing transparent, adaptive, and personalized feedback to support SRL. We will discuss how AI can assist students in planning, performance, and appraisal stages of SRL, helping them set learning goals, monitor progress, and evaluate their outcomes effectively.
