Session Description

In today’s data-rich educational landscape, understanding the interplay between learners, teachers, and learning content – the pedagogical triangle – is essential for improving educational outcomes. To achieve this, it is crucial to understand not only who the learners are (their profiles, cognitive abilities, etc.) but also how they interact with learning materials and what factors influence their performance and engagement. While Learning Analytics has advanced our ability to measure and report on these aspects, it often overlooks the process-oriented nature of learning. Educational Process Mining (EPM) addresses this gap by analyzing event logs from platforms like Moodle to uncover the actual learning processes students follow. This workshop offers an introduction to EPM and interactive exercises on sample Moodle log data such that attendees will gain hands-on experience in applying EPM to model learning paths, observe deviations, identify patterns, and understand learner behavior.
