Gamification and TEL research

Tuesday 24/05 10:30-12:00h
Outdoor Area A

This session is organized by the DETEL Erasmus+ project.
DETEL is a strategic partnership among nine European universities and EATEL to reflect their expertise in doctoral education into a new study program in TEL, extended with rich and professionally produced OERs.

Abstract

This webinar will explore the concepts of gamification and will engage participants in practical activities that will enable them to identify and discuss different educational and research approaches that use this approach. We will close the webinar with a general discussion about these topics and point to resources and expected developments in the area.

Needs Analysis

Gamification is a hot topic in TEL research but its focus it very wide. With this WS we plan to introduce and give some criteria to choose gamified approaches to research on TEL that PhD candidates can use on their own research.

Learning Objectives

After the course, participant PhD students will:

  • Distinguish the concepts of gamification, serious games and game-based learning
  • Identify game design elements and gamification frameworks
  • Understand the different gamification approaches used in TEL research.
