Short description:
The purpose of the workshop is to start a policy-oriented dialogue of how we envision the future of teaching with AI in schools, universities and training organisation with a specific focus on the role of teachers. The workshop will explore the potential impact of AI on future teaching tasks – their replacement, complementarity or augmentation – and what this will mean for teachers’ knowledge and skills and the teaching profession more broadly. The workshop will use different methods applying dialogue and foresight to discuss the latest research in the area, and to discuss what impact AI could have for the future of education, the teaching profession and the professional development of teachers.
2. WS315: Data Infrastructures for Learning Analytics: Building for Consistency, Scalability, and Reproducibility
Website: https://blog.studiumdigitale.uni-frankfurt.de/ectel25-infra4la/
Date: 15.09 09.00 – 18.00
List of organizers:
- Lukas Menzel
- Sebastian Gombert
- Patrick Sache
Short description:
In this workshop, we’ll focus on building data infrastructure for Learning Analytics (LA) using open source solutions. Together, we’ll explore extract, transform, and load (ETL) tools for creating unified data stores that meet common LA requirements, such as creating accessible datasets, ensuring long-term preservation, using widely-supported formats, maintaining secure learner data control, and storing experimental outputs alongside source data to create complete datasets.
We will share insights into various open source component categories, popular solutions, and how they can be combined for effective LA experimentation and production. We’ll also facilitate discussions about the challenges of standardizing practices and systems across different teams or institutions.
You can actively contribute by submitting an abstract describing your own LA architecture. You can then present your LA infrastructure, share your experiences, and exchange ideas in group sessions. For more details about the format, visit our workshop website.
3. WS316: Teaching of AI in EdTech: Curriculum development and innovations in TEL teaching (CUPTEL25)
Website: https://sites.google.com/view/ai4edtech/home
Date: 15.09 14.00 – 18.00
List of organizers:
- Manolis Mavrikis, Darina Slattery
Short description:
This half-day workshop under the auspices of CUPTEL SIG is in response to the rapid rise of generative AI an the urgent need to discussion how TEL programs address both its technical and ethical dimensions. Building on the CUPTEL 2023 workshop, this session aims to move beyond public AI literacy, focusing on what should be taught in TEL programs across Europe, the UK, and globally, while creating space for sharing practices and addressing emerging challenges.
4. WS301: Hack & Reflect: Critical Engagement with Locally Hosted Large Language Models in Higher Education (Hack & Reflect)
Website: https://ectel-workshop-2025.web.app
Date: 16.09 09.00 – 13.00
List of organizers:
- Kerstin Denecke
- Daniel Reichenpfader
Short description:
This workshop invites participants to critically engage with locally hosted, open-source large language models (LLMs) designed for higher education environments. Combining hands-on exploration with structured ethical reflection, the session offers an opportunity to both test and evaluate a beta LLM-based chatbot developed for academic use.
Participants will split into two parallele groups: one will conduct a hands-on hacking session to probe the system’s weaknesses, biases, and vulnerabilities; the other will engage in structured ethical analysis using the Digital Ethics Canvas. Following these parallel sessions, the full group will reconvene for a plenary discussion to share findings and insights.
5. WS312: ET+D: EdTech plus Disinformation Counter Strategies (ET+D)
Website: https://www.famous-project.eu/et-d-workshop
Date: 16.09 09.00 – 13.00
List of organizers:
- Maksim Kalameyets, Lei Shi, Anastasia Sergeeva, Gabriele Lenzini
Short description:
This half-day workshop explores how EdTech can empower everyday users to detect and counteract fake online engagement: fake reviews, inflated follower counts, and AI-generated profiles. Participants will engage in interactive discussions and collaborative co-design activities, creating prototypes of simple games and interactive tools that foster critical thinking and digital literacy. Suitable for newcomers and experts alike — no technical expertise required — this workshop invites up to 30 attendees to collaboratively explore innovative EdTech solutions designed to diminish the effectiveness of purchased disinformation, ultimately helping users recognise manipulation and reduce the influence of deceptive online practices.
6. WS305: Co-Creating Innovation for Educational Robots and Robotics for Learning 3rd International Workshop of the EATEL SIG EduRobotX 2025 (EduRobotX 2025)
