Short Bio

Franklin Nyairo is a doctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki, specializing in teacher education, curriculum development, and instructional design. With MA in English Philology (Helsinki) and Educational Sciences (Turku), he has extensive experience in teaching English and pedagogical courses in Finland and globally. His research focuses on educational technology, innovative pedagogies, and 21st-century learning skills. Franklin currently works as Project Manager at Novia UAS for the i-MASTER, an EU project aimed at developing intelligent learning system for maritime education and training.

 

PhD Description

My doctoral research focuses on understanding how student teachers in Finland and Kenya acquire Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) to meet digitalization goals in national educational policies. The study examines curriculum frameworks, initial teacher professional development, and lesson plan design integrating technology. Utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods, the research initially analyzed English language teaching curricula in both countries. The project aims to advance theory and practice in curriculum implementation and English language teacher development, while fostering academic collaboration between Finland and Kenya.
