About the EATEL membership of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology
The Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU is Norway’s leading institution for educating the nation’s future engineers and scientists. NTNU membership in EATEL has been secured by the Innovative Immersive Technologies for Learning – IMTEL, an interdisciplinary research group working in the intersection of learning and immersive technologies at the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning, Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences.
IMTEL operates the NTNU VR lab, an environment with technical expertise in software development and a wide variety of virtual and augmented reality equipment. IMTEL is actively engaged in designing and running courses on the topics of immersive technologies in education for bachelor and master students and for adult learners, as part of continuing education. IMTEL is also very active in coordinating and participating in R&D projects in the areas of Technology-Enhanced Learning and immersive technologies for learning.
NTNU - EATEL established connection through the EATEL summer school
NTNU and EATEL have a history of successful collaboration. NTNU researcher Mikhail Fominykh has been the general chair of the EATEL Summer School on Technology-Enhanced Learning since 2017, an annual week-long international training event for doctoral researchers in the area of Technology-Enhanced Learning that attracts approximately a hundred participants. Several PhD candidates from different departments of NTNU have participated in the EATEL summer school since 2008. Several NTNU researchers, such as Professor Ekaterina Prasolova-Førland, have been regularly organizing workshops, while NTNU Professor Monica Divitini has been invited and has given a keynote in 2022.
NTNU researchers have also been active in presenting their work at the EATEL’s European Conference on Technology-Enhanced Learning EC-TEL and volunteering in various roles of conference organization.
NTNU - EATEL collaboration in projects and research
NTNU and EATEL collaborated on the LLearnTech project, which has been funded by NTNU and aimed to study the curricula of the existing study programs in the area of Technology-Enhanced Learning globally. The project resulted in a journal publication.

NTNU and EATEL have also been working together on the DE-TEL project, funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. The DE-TEL project established and deepened a strategic partnership for doctoral education in Technology-Enhanced Learning between nine European universities, members of the EATEL community. In this project, the partners continued the work of analyzing the educational offer in Technology-Enhanced Learning in European universities and conducted an analysis of the topics offered at the EATEL Summer School on Technology-Enhanced Learning in 2005-2019. The results of these analyses are presented in journal publication.

Among other results, the project developed an open-source text book platform, an alternative to the classic development process typical for printed content DE-TEL book, led by RWTH Aachen university, another long-term member of EATEL. The book contains several example chapters on the key sub-topics of Technology-Enhanced Learning, written by different project partners, and is open to contributions from the community. The project has been coordinated by NTNU researcher Mikhail Fominykh with the IMTEL group and the computer science department representing NTNU.
NTNU - EATEL current collaboration
NTNU and EATEL are currently collaborating in the framework of the EATEL Special Interest group Technology Enhanced Learning Curricula and Programs – SIG CUPTEL.
NTNU and EATEL are also actively collaborating on new grant proposals on the topics of strengthening the European Technology Enhanced Learning community, internationalization and standardization of the Technology Enhanced Learning curricula, and research methodology training for young researchers in the field.
“NTNU has been an active member of the EATEL community through participation in the events organized by the association. The EATEL community shaped my professional network and helped to open new areas of research and development work. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as the general chair of the EATEL Summer School on Technology-Enhanced Learning and for being elected as the secretary of the association in the current period.”
