Delft University of Technology (TUD), the Netherlands

Short bio: Manuel Valle Torre is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Education and Learning (CEL) at TU Delft, in the Netherlands. After completing a master’s degree in Computer Science in Delft, he worked as a research engineer in the Web Information Systems group and started collaborating with CEL, becoming involved in Learning Analytics (LA). Currently, his research focuses on implementing LA methods to find sequential patterns in complex learning tasks, to provide learners with personalized and timely support.

Current PhD project: Students who are engaged in a difficult learning task will show different behaviours or strategies depending on their expertise and skills. If we can identify those behaviours as patterns in data, we can use them to assess their learning as a temporal process and support it while it happens.
A particular, and growing, scenario where the learning process is obscured to instructors, is the use of AI in the form of Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT. Therefore, The focus is on exploring and defining LLM usage tactics, with their impact on learning outcomes.
